Stripe Fee Calculator

Stripe’s standard US online card rate is 2.9% + 30¢ per successful domestic payment. ACH, international cards, subscriptions and invoices use different fees. Use the calculator to estimate your monthly cost, then request a Swipesum review of your pricing and options.

Estimate what Stripe charges for the way your business actually takes payments: cards, ACH, subscriptions, invoices, platforms and more. Each fee shows what triggers it, what it's based on and Stripe's own source. Anything we can't price yet is listed as unresolved, never guessed.

For US businesses paying Stripe in USD, using Stripe's published prices. It's an estimate from your answers, not your Stripe bill.

How the calculator works

  1. Answer in your own terms. Monthly volume, average payment and what you do (sell online, charge subscriptions, send invoices, run a platform, sell in person or internationally). You don't need to know Stripe's product names.
  2. We turn answers into usage. Volumes and approximate payment counts for each kind of payment. Answers you haven't changed stay labeled as examples.
  3. Each fee is priced once. We apply the published price that matches that usage, in whole cents, and never count a bundled fee twice.
  4. Unknowns stay visible. If you choose something we can't price yet, or your rates are negotiated, the result is marked incomplete and lists what's missing. It's never shown as $0.

A worked example

A US business takes $100,000 a month online in domestic card payments that average $20 each, with no other Stripe products. That's about 5,000 payments:

  • 2.9% of $100,000 = $2,900
  • 5,000 payments × 30¢ = $1,500
  • Estimated Stripe fees: $4,400 a month (4.4% of volume), or about $52,800 a year at the same usage.

Add subscriptions, invoices, international customers or a platform, and different fees apply to different parts of that volume. The calculator works out which fee applies to which payments, so nothing is double-counted.

What the estimate doesn't include

  • Your negotiated or custom Stripe rates. Choose "negotiated" and we'll show public pricing only as a labeled comparison.
  • Taxes on Stripe fees, credits, promotions and products you didn't select.
  • Products whose pricing we can't yet verify (for example card issuing, Treasury or premium support). These are listed as unresolved.

How to find your total Stripe fees across reports

The fee beside a payment can tell only part of the story. Stripe Billing, Tax, Connect and other paid services can add costs beyond card processing. Swipesum's review starts by reconciling the fees across your reports and any separate Stripe invoices, then checking the payouts against your bank records.

Which Stripe reports should you download?

Use these four views as a reconciliation checklist. The files you need depend on your products, account structure and payout method.

Report or recordWhere to find it and what to check
Fees report / All feesOpen Reports > All fees and download the Itemized CSV. Review charges by product and feature. Stripe says this report excludes fees invoiced after service use and certain other costs; recent fee data can take up to 96 hours to appear.
Balance summary reportOpen Reports > Balance summary. Export Balance change from activity to reconcile payments, fees, refunds and other balance movements, with the opening and closing balance.
Payout reconciliation reportOpen Reports > Payout reconciliation. Match automatic payout batches to bank deposits. Manual and Instant Payouts need separate reconciliation against balance activity.
Stripe-issued invoices and payment recordsReview your separate product invoices and agreements. Where Stripe issues tax invoices, find them under Settings > Plans and fees > Invoice history, also called Documents. A tax invoice can repeat fees already deducted from your balance.

Reconcile the files before calculating an effective rate

  1. Match the account, currency, time zone and reporting period. To compare All fees with balance reports, use its Balance transaction date basis. A service period and a payout arrival period can differ.
  2. Count each fee once. Match fee and balance transaction IDs and invoice lines before combining totals. Add separately billed fees only when they are absent from the report total; subtract applicable fee credits. Show taxes on fees separately.
  3. For Connect, separate what your platform pays from what connected businesses pay. Seller payment volume is different from your platform's own revenue.

Effective Stripe cost rate = reconciled Stripe fees for the period ÷ matching gross processed volume × 100. Define which products and accounts are included so comparisons use the same scope.

Use bank deposits as a cross-check

Compare the reconciled payouts with deposits that reached your bank. Gross sales minus deposits is not automatically your Stripe fee total: refunds, disputed funds, transfers, reserves, currency conversion, opening and closing balances, and payout timing also affect the difference. Separately paid invoices may not reduce a payout at all.

Example: $100,000 in domestic online card payments averaging $20 produces $4,400 in standard processing fees. If 60% also uses pay-as-you-go Stripe Billing at 0.7%, Billing adds $420, bringing the modeled total to $4,820, or 4.82%, before other products or taxes. The extra product fee belongs in the total regardless of which report or invoice records it.

What to review before choosing a Stripe alternative

Start with your payment volume, average ticket and the software that must keep working. Review subscriptions, stored payment methods, invoicing, international payments, reporting and implementation costs alongside processing rates. A lower headline rate is useful only if the full setup works for your business.

Swipesum can review your payment processing costs and help evaluate embedded payments for software platforms. For a bill-based analysis, request a statement audit.

Want a second opinion on your Stripe costs?

Swipesum reviews how you use Stripe and what you actually pay. Then we tell you plainly whether your setup, your pricing or a different provider that works with your software would serve you better. We don't promise savings before we've seen your statement.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Stripe charge per transaction in the US?

Stripe's published standard price for domestic online card payments is 2.9% + 30¢ per successful payment. International cards add 1.5%, currency conversion adds 1%, and manually entered cards add 0.5%. Other payment methods, such as ACH Direct Debit at 0.8% capped at $5, are priced separately.

Is this calculator's result my actual Stripe bill?

No. It's an estimate built from your answers and Stripe's published US prices. Your bill depends on your real payment mix, refunds, disputes, any negotiated rates and products you use that you didn't select here.

Does Stripe charge for subscriptions and invoices on top of card fees?

Yes, when you use Stripe Billing or Stripe Invoicing. Billing is 0.7% of billing volume on pay-as-you-go, and Invoicing is 0.4% (Starter) or 0.5% (Plus) per paid invoice. These are in addition to the processing fee on the payment itself. A recurring invoice managed by Billing isn't also charged the ordinary Invoicing fee.

What does a Stripe dispute cost?

Stripe charges $15 when a card dispute is opened. Responding to it costs another $15, which Stripe returns if you win. The disputed sale amount is separate from these fees.

What does Stripe Connect cost for platforms?

If your platform controls pricing, Stripe charges $2 per monthly active connected account plus 0.25% + 25¢ per payout, alongside processing fees. If Stripe sets pricing for your connected accounts, there's no extra platform fee and connected businesses pay processing directly.

Why does my result say "incomplete"?

You selected something we can't price yet, or you told us your rates are negotiated. Rather than guess, we price what we can, label the result incomplete and list exactly what's missing.

Do you store my answers?

Your answers stay in your browser until you choose to request a review. If you do, we save your email, any details you add and your calculator answers so Swipesum can follow up. See our Privacy Policy.

Can Swipesum help reduce my Stripe fees?

Swipesum can review your actual Stripe statement, payment mix, software and account pricing. Depending on your needs, the next step may be a pricing review, a change to your setup or a comparison of other providers. The calculator does not establish savings or guarantee that switching will cost less.

Does the calculator include Stripe Terminal and in-person payments?

Yes. Select in-person payments to estimate Stripe Terminal processing and applicable Tap to Pay, P2PE and international card fees. Online and in-person payment volumes are kept separate. Card readers are a one-time cost, shown separately from recurring fees.

Where can I see all my Stripe fees?

Start with Reports > All fees, then reconcile it with Balance summary and any separate Stripe invoices. Use Payout reconciliation for automatic payout batches. The Fees report excludes some separately invoiced costs, and a tax invoice can repeat fees already recorded elsewhere. Count each fee once.

Can I calculate Stripe fees by subtracting bank deposits from sales?

Use that difference as a reconciliation check, rather than a fee total. Adjust for refunds, disputes, reserves, transfers, opening and closing balances, currencies and payout timing. Include separately paid Stripe invoices once. Divide the reconciled fee total by matching gross processed volume to calculate an effective cost rate.

Do I need to connect my Stripe account?

No Stripe login, account connection or statement upload is required. Your estimate and fee breakdown update as you change your answers, with no email required. If you want Swipesum to review your setup and follow up, submit a review request. You can request a review even when some pricing is unknown.
